The artist behind Willeigh.

A little Cubism. A little Expressionism. A healthy disregard for the ordinary. Original artwork, fine art prints, and the occasional unexpected twist.

An abstract painting of a person with exaggerated facial features, striped clothing, and a large eye in the center of the face, holding a glass with an unknown liquid in front of their face.

“Power to the People”

Power to the People is a contemporary figurative work that draws from Cubism and Expressionism to explore the idea of voice, participation, and belonging. The solitary figure raises a hand in a gesture that can be read in several ways—as an oath, a vote, a declaration, or simply a request to be heard.

Rendered almost entirely in cool grays, blacks, and muted blues, the exaggerated geometry of the face and body gives the figure a sculptural, almost monumental presence. A single warm eye and rust-colored lips interrupt the restrained palette, bringing humanity and individuality into an otherwise austere composition.

The title references the opening words of the U.S. Constitution, but the painting deliberately leaves the figure’s identity and intentions unresolved. Rather than defining who “the people” are, the work asks the viewer to consider what it means to be counted among them—and what responsibilities and rights come with having a voice.
